This special event is an opportunity for the public to explore and get up close or on those big pieces of equipment, some with wheels taller than a human! On display will be trucks, tractors, police and fire equipment, and train cars and locomotives. Some of this equipment you might see around town and it will be here for you to climb into and pretend to be operator.
Locomotive Engine rides will be available, along with our maintenance of way "motorcar" rides.
Located in our South Rail Yard at 806 S. Evans Street, Tecumseh.
12 noon to 6 p.m.
Local historical displays from Clinton Historical Society, Operation Lifesaver, and Sheriff's Department safety for children on site. A food vendor will also be on site to quench your thirst or fill your tummy with barbeque.
Donations will be collected to help the Southern Michigan Railroad Society continue to preserve, maintain, and operate and promote the historical and educational lessons associated with railroads, safety, and settling the state of Michigan.
The First Train into Tecumseh! 175 years ago!
Palmyra and Jacksonburgh Rail Road Company was chartered by the Michigan Territory in 1836. Michigan became a state in January 1837.
The Branch line was built to Tecumseh and then Clinton for a short time in 1837, with actual iron rail installed by 1854.
The oldest railroad in the United States is only 10 years older than this rail line!
